Q.E.D. or New light on the Doctrine of Creation by George McCready Price 1917
George McCready Price (1870–1963) was a Canadian creationist. He produced a string of anti-evolution, or creationist works, particularly on the subject of "flood geology". However, his views did not become common amongst creationists until after his death, particularly with the "creation science" movement starting in the 1960s. Price was born in Havelock, New Brunswick, Canada. His father died in 1882 and his mother joined the Seventh-day Adventist Church. In 1887, he married another follower of the church. For several years thereafter the couple worked as itinerant sellers of Seventh-day Adventist co-founder Ellen G. White's books in the Maritime Provinces of Eastern Canada. In a response to a plea from his wife, the Adventist church employed Price as a construction worker first in Maryland. He then was, for a short time, principal of a small Adventist school in Oakland, California before moving again and becoming a construction worker and handyman at a newly purchased Adventist sanatorium in Loma Linda, where he self-published Illogical Geology: The Weakest Point in the Evolution Theory in 1906. In Illogical Geology, Price offered $1000 "to any one who will, in the face of the facts here presented, show me how to prove that one kind of fossil is older than another."

The Encyclopedia Americana (1956) on the Trinity in Early Christianity

@In The Encyclopedia Americana we read: “Christianity derived from Judaism and Judaism was strictly Unitarian [believing that God is one person]. The road which led from Jerusalem to Nicea was scarcely a straight one. Fourth century Trinitarianism did not reflect accurately early Christian teaching regarding the nature of God; it was, on the contrary, a deviation from this teaching.”—(1956), Vol. XXVII, p. 294L.

Someone at https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Talk:Nontrinitarianism/References took issue with this and added"

"is deceptive misquote because it projects the false impression that The Encyclopedia Americana are saying that early Christian teaching" was not Trinitarian, and this person added:

"For the early Christian belief that Jesus was divine, the Son of God, and that as the risen, glorified Messiah or Lord, He was now at the right hand of God: required the use of theistic language." (Encyclopedia Americana, Trinity, p116)

Reply: There is nothing about this page 116 quote that changes anything. I can believe that Jesus was divine and not God almighty. The angels are divine after all. The appellation "Son of God" indicates a separateness from God, as does any glorification and seating arrangement.

Romans 10:10 in the New World Translation: Public Declaration, or Confesses

Romans 10:10: For one believes with the heart and so is justified, and one confesses with the mouth and so is saved. NAB

For with the heart one exercises faith for righteousness, but with the mouth one makes public declaration for salvation. NWT

Answer: Many object to the rendering "public declaration" instead of "confesses." The same Greek word for confess (HOMOLOGEO) is also used at Matt 7:23 as declare. The NKJV Vine's Expository Dictionary gives "to declare openly by way of speaking out freely, such confession being the effect of deep conviction of facts" as one definition.

The NIV, New Spirit-Filled Life Bible states at Romans 10:10, "The word 'declare' (Greek homologeo) has the connotation of a 'binding public declaration by which a legal relation is contractually established.'"

The BDAG Lexicon gives as one of its definitions of HOMOLOGEO "to acknowledge someth., ordinarily in public, acknowledge, claim, profess, praise. a. of a public declaration as such"

"Most often, homologeo means to assert, confess or declare publicly (Mt 7:23; Mt 10:32 = Lk 12:8;Jn 9:22; 12:42;Ac 23:8). This outward confession is viewed as a window into the person's actual beliefs (Rm 10:10). In this sense, homologeo may refer to a public declaration..." HCSB Experiencing the Word New Testament (p. 530)

"The Christian life therefore begins with a confession of faith, a public declaration before witnesses (Rom. 10:9–10 ..." Holman Treasury of Key Bible Words: 200 Greek and 200 Hebrew Words Defined (p. 257)

Many other bibles also do not use the word "confesses" here either, such as: Smith & Goodspeed, Schonfield, 20th Century NT, J.B. Phillips, Jewish NT, Living Bible, New Life NT, Kingdom of God Version, CEV, Williams NT.

"For with the heart it is believed into righteousness, and with the mouth is profession made into salvation." Eonian Life Bible

"The belief of the heart puts you in the right, while the profession of the mouth brings salvation..." The Unvarnished New Testament (see also the Kleist & Lilly New Testament)

Edgar J Goodspeed on This Day in History

This Day in History: New Testament scholar Edgar J. Goodspeed died on this day in 1962. Professor Jason Beduhn declared that Goodspeed was one of the three greats in Bible Translation history (the other two being James Moffatt and Brooke Foss Westcott), and Goodpeed may have created one of the greatest Bible Translations ever. About 70 years ago, E.C. Colwell created an apparatus to determine the best New Testament, in his book "What Is The Best New Testament" [University of Chicage Press, 1951.] Colwell chose 64 Scriptures in the Gospel of John where there were slight differences between the weaker (later) Greek Text (Textus Receptus) and the better Greek Text based on older manuscripts. For instance, at John 5:2, the weaker texts have "Bethasda" while the texts based on older manuscripts have "Bethzatha." Colwell wanted to determine which Bible was the most faithful to the best Greek text. His conclusion was that Goodspeed's New Testament was the best New Testament, as it translated all 64 verses correctly. I then tested other Bible Versions that came out since then, and I discovered 2 other Bibles that did as well as Goodspeed's: The New World Translation, and the 21st Century New Testament (Vivial Capel). The New International Version scored 51 out of 64, and the English Standard Version got 52 out of 64 correct. Rotherham's Emphasized Bible and Byington's Bible in Living English were quite accurate as well.

Smith & Goodspeed's An American Translation is no longer in print, but a search on Ebay will usually help you find a copy.

The Absurdity of the Trinity Doctrine By G. W. Hyer (1852)

The Absurdity of the Trinity Doctrine By G. W. Hyer (1852)

“O holy, blessed, and glorious Trinity, three persons and one God; have mercy upon us miserable sinners."
To be sure in this we have these three personal Gods called one God; but I do not see how that helps the matter. The contradiction is not a proof, but a disgrace to the functionary uttering it, whoever he may be. Suppose I say, “John is a man, James is a man, and George is a man. These three are three persons; but, after all, they are but one man." How do I prove this? Very simply, “I call them a trinity." But does calling them a trinity make them less than three separate and distinct men?

 Certainly not.

I don't think it will require, therefore, an argument to establish my first affirmation, that the Church worships three Gods. To be sure she calls them a Trinity likewise. But what does the word Trinity signify? It signifies three.. To say, then, that three are but one, is nonsense.

You reply to me by saying, that, in its application to so great a mystery as the Godhead, it may have a more recondite meaning. I don't understand how that can be. Your calling a thing a mystery don't make it so; nor does it justify its application to that simple idea of the oneness of God which is appreciable by every mind. To put forth a mystery as an object of worship, looks very much, in this age, like a humbug. But this mystery is such only because it is an absurdity. You don't profess to understand it, and the Church don't profess to understand it; and yet 't is a damnable heresy not to believe it. Had the Church honestly said to her members, “There is a dogma which we find in an ancient creed, which, indeed, is quite inexplicable and very strange. You may receive it or not, as it may approve itself to your judgment. We retain it, because we find it amid the theological heritage transmitted to us from that venerable era, and so conserve it." Then men would have felt very easy about it; and although there might have been found some bookworm, or archæological moth, or erudite Puseyite, to inscribe it upon his missal, no wrangling could have come of it. But to make it a cardinal doctrine, — this was very stupid.

I don't enter upon this argument here, - so much out of place, - because I fear the Church's anathema.

She may go on damning people to the end of time, and I doubt that it will turn one hair black or white. I add it merely to justify what I had previously said upon the subject. Nor would I presume to treat her with disrespect. She is herself the very impersonation of respectability. Wealth, titles, orders, successions, mitres, crosiers, heraldic emblazonings of pedigree, lordly assumptions, and kingly pride, — all awe the observant world into a reverent silence. She moves in the pomp of processions and surplices to the sound of organs; she ascends the throne of spiritual dominion, and thence issues her edicts stamped with the seal of Apostolic authority. Her enemies wither beneath her rebuke, and steal away into oblivion.

Let us say no more about the dignity of human nature. Man is vile. Human depravity is the doctrine with which she represses his rising energies, and dooms him to abstinence and obedience. Mortify the flesh. Abase the intellect. Subdue the reason.
Cease to think. Hear the Church. What a tender mother, to take all this care upon herself! She would perpetuate our infancy, that she might always have the pleasure of nursing us.

The more helpless we are, the more tender her concern. To be weak is to be dependent. She knows this. And to be dependent is to become a slave. Freedom is error. Liberty is licentiousness. Private judgment leads down to hell.

If one could reconcile this to one's conscience, reason. would it be better? Let those who have gone over to Rome answer. I don't mean by this that the Church is Roman; she is only Catholic. She does not possess the power; she only grasps at it, and abides in the disposition. She affects republicanism in her organization, and regality in her tone. A pope is infallible, but a bishop is only divine.

I must stop here, or you will think I am becoming disrespectful. Such is not my intention. And I am inclined to believe that Churchmen will look upon these remarks as rather complimentary than otherwise. The terms in which you describe a proud man only make him prouder.
