"We invite all those who rely on the organization to interpret the Bible for them including Orthodox,
Catholics, and their twin organization, the Jehovah's Witnesses, to think for themselves. If you have the intelligence to read the newspaper, why not the Bible?" http://www.bible.ca/sola-scriptura-proof-texts.htm
Do not let this ignorant intimidation fool you. Anyone who wants to stand on the high-horse of Sola Scriptura and point their fingers at any they deem as lesser ones are quite ignorant of the facts at hand. If you think you can walk into a Protestant church and profess belief in a non-trinitarian God and still retain a good standing had better face the reality that Protestants are burdened by many Creeds & Confessions which must be embraced, or you are in danger of being censored or boycotted. You see, Protestants, despite all their crowing about Sola Scriptura (Scripture Alone), have to adhere to post-biblical man-made creeds, and any Protestant claim to some unique stand on Sola Scriptura must be seen as a lie. Consider some of the following creeds that various Protestant churches stick to:
The Apostles' Creed
Nicene Creed (325 AD)
Chalcedonian Creed
The Athanasian Creed (c 500 AD)
The Augsburg Confession (1530)
The Scottish Confession of Faith (1560)
The Belgic Confession of Faith (1561)
The Heidelberg Catechism (1563)
The Second Helvetic Confession (1566)
The Thirty-nine Articles of Religion (Anglican 1571)
The Canons of the Synod of Dort (1618-1619)
London Baptist Confession of 1644
Westminster Confession of Faith (1646)
Westminster Shorter Catechism
Westminster Larger Catechism
Keach's Catechism of 1677
The Baptist Confession of 1689 (original version with
Scripture proofs)
The Philadelphia Confession, 1742
Carter Lane Declaration (John Gill's Confession), 1757
The Baptist Confession of 1689 (Spurgeon's edition)
The New Hampshire Baptist Confession, 1833
Spurgeon's Catechism of 1855
Baptist Faith and Message (1963)
Abstract of Principles (Baptist)
Chicago Statement on Biblical Inerrancy
Let's face it, no man on a desert island, after reading the Bible would ever conjure up a convoluted
idea of a trinitarian godhead. Only in the imaginations of men could we conceive of such an idea.
One example of the churches reliance on the Creeds comes from Walt Hibbard:
"Back in 1984 when I served as a ruling elder in a fairly large conservative Presbyterian denomination, and AGAIN in 1997 when I was a member in good standing in a very small Reformed denomination, my views on eschatology came under heavy scrutiny by pastors and elders in these ecclesiastical groups. In both cases, the issue was raised on the basis of the full preterist view being in conflict with the historic Reformed confessions, particularly the Westminster Confession, as well as the ancient creeds, such as the Apostles’ Creed, the Athanasian Creed, the Nicene Creed, etc."
WHAT ABOUT THE CREEDS? - Orlando Seminar Presentation– Feb. 20, 1999
My point exactly! If someone else reads the Bible and comes to a conclusion much different from the almighty Creeds, he is called to task on it. Protestant are basically CATHOLICS IN DRAG, in the end they become the very thing they despise.
