This guy Al Garza claims all these translations are wrong. He claims "John 1c has two subject nouns in the nominative form, "Theos and ha Logos." That means both should have definite articles or in the case of "Theos", implied. There is NO way to ignore both subject nominative nouns and turn Theos into a non-subject noun."

I guess you can argue all day that "both should have definite articles" but in the end they don't. The Gospel of John has other examples of similar constructions (pre-verbal anarthrous predicate nominatives), over half of which are translated with the indefinite article "a."
